Efficiency. Consistency. Portability. PathoBench is a streamlined digital workspace independently developed by a practicing pathologist. It bridges the gap between diagnostic accuracy and operational speed by providing a portable library of templates. It is built to help you work faster, standardize your output, and take your workflow with you wherever you practice.
The "80/20" Approach to Reporting. PathoBench focuses on the high-volume core of pathology practice. The templates are designed not to be exhaustive encyclopedias, but to cover over 80% of routine general practice. By focusing on the most frequent specimens, PathoBench provide a high-speed workflow that:
Built for the Bench. Developed by a practitioner for colleagues and trainees, PathoBench is more than a template library—it is a real-time diagnostic companion.
With integrated links to PubMed and curated image searches, and >100 useful IHC panels based on common daily diagnostic scenarios in surgical pathology, PathoBench supports evidence-based learning exactly when it matters most: at the microscope.
As an independently developed project, PathoBench thrives on peer feedback and the shared expertise of the pathology community. Whether you have a technical question, a suggestion for improvement, or an efficiency-boosting template of your own to contribute, I welcome your input.

Your feedback helps PathoBench evolve. I welcome your ideas for improving the diagnostic workflow. As both a PathoBench developer and a liver pathologist dedicated to education, I invite you to explore my channel for diagnostic pearls and deep dives into liver morphology: Liver Pathologist on YouTube.
PathoBench is intended exclusively for educational and personal organizational purposes. These templates are supplemental tools and are not a substitute for professional clinical judgment. While covering the majority of routine cases, users must manually supplement reports for complex or "outlier" cases. Final diagnostic responsibility and report accuracy rest solely with the signing pathologist.

How do I generate a report?
Select a template from the library, then click Generate Report (or double-click the row). Fill in the structured fields, then click Generate Report Text. The finished report is automatically copied to your clipboard — just paste into your LIS.
How do I search for a template?
Type any keyword (diagnosis, organ, and/or abbreviation) search box above the template list. For example, type colon hp to find colon hyperplastic polyp templates. Use Alt+S to jump straight to the search box.
What is the quickest way to generate a report with the keyboard?
From the library, press Alt+Enter to generate a report from the selected template. In the report form, press Alt+Enter again to generate the report text — no mouse needed.
What keyboard shortcuts can I use in PathoBench?
Click Help in the top-right or press Alt+/ to show the keyboard shortcuts in the current view.
Can I switch between US and UK English?
Yes, use the language toggle at the top of the page.
Can I use PathoBench without signing up?
Absolutely. You can use any public template to generate reports without signing up. However, creating a free account offers several advantages:
What information do I need to provide to create an account?
To sign up for PathoBench, only three pieces of information you need to provide:
What are SNOMED codes?
SNOMED CT is a global standard for medical terminology. While SNOMED 3.5 is an older version, PathoBench still supports it to ensure backward compatibility with legacy systems and older clinical records.
What is a structured field?
It is a smart slot in the template that PathoBench turns into an interactive input. Depending on the template, structured fields can be free-text boxes, single-select radio groups, multi-select checkboxes, or auto-populated fixed text.
Are there required fields? What happens if I leave one blank?
Yes. To ensure your report is complete and
accurate, certain fields must be filled before
the report text can be generated. If a required
field is missing, the
Generate Report Text button will will
remain inactive.
To help you quickly find what's missing, a
reminder—"x missing required field(s)"—will
appear next to the button. Clicking this
reminder will automatically highlight all empty
required fields in red, making it easy for you
to complete your entry and proceed.
What does Omitted mean as an option?
Choosing Omitted (the null option) excludes that field entirely from the report output — useful when a finding is not applicable to the case.
What if none of the listed options fits?
Select Other - Specify and type your own text. It will be inserted into the report in place of the field.
How do I add structured fields to a template?
In the Template Editor, use the Field Builder panel on the right. Configure your field type, label, and options, then click Insert to place it at the cursor. Run the Template Builder Tour (button below) for a guided walkthrough.
Can I make a field appear only under certain conditions?
Yes. In the Field Builder, you can set a field to only appear when another field matches a specific value. This keeps your forms clean by hiding irrelevant options until they are needed.
How do I create your template?
You have two options to get started:
No matching IHC panels found.
